Week 2

What a start to the season.

For those of you who followed my lead, your run to destiny to open the season worked out well. Well, for the most part anyway. And for my friend who blasted me for telling him to keep Brian Westbrook on the Bench, I still haven't heard back from you.

Jerry Porter gave way to Ron Curry and that hurt me a little bit, but My Texans came through and if you believed in me, well, you're happy tonight.

And, did I say something about Reggie Wayne having a better night that Marvin Marvin?

I'll be posting the QB list Thursdays and the RB and WR Lists on Fridays.

For now, I'll be answering Questions.

Lisa Asks:

Who should I start out of these 3:

Ronnie Brown
Tatum Bell
"That Ward Guy" from the Giants

For me, Because Bell is going up against the tough Vikes D and "That Ward Guy" is going against Green Bay, I would let Ron Brown Carry the rock. The Cowboys didn't look like they were slowing anyone down and the Dolphins need to give it to someone. Tough match ups to be sure.

Thanks for all of your emails and participation. Looks for more to come this week.

If you followed these calls from last week, you were happy:

Tony Romo

He's going to shred the Giants. Look for a big day and a sigh of relief at the end of the game with the knowledge that last year is finally behind him. Besides, you just know T.O. is going to have some fun. He always does.

Matt Schuab

Like this guy. Like the Texans this year. Do not like KC at all. Look for 250 and a couple of scores – then look for me to tell me I was right.

GIVE 'EM A CHANCE

Eli Manning

OK. OK little brother, we're going to let you play because it's early and you seem to come out when everyone is healthy. Nobody else around, so look for Manning to find what he can for a few scores in what should be a high scoring game in the suddenly wild NFC East. Yikes.

Stal,

What do you think of Laurence Maroney against the Chargers this week?

Worth a fantasy start?

Stal Herz said...

The Chargers D is among the best in the league. Who are your other starters? Thing is that the Pats usually do the opposite of what they did the week before, so look for some run plays.

Who are your other backs?

Stal,

Here's what I have to choose from.

Benson, Cedric CHI RB
Maroney, Laurence NEP RB
Morris, Sammy NEP RB
Washington, Leon NYJ RB
White, LenDale TEN RB
Brown, Reggie PHI WR
Colston, Marques NOS WR
Crayton, Patrick DAL WR
Gates, Antonio SDC TE
Heap, Todd BAL TE

I'm likely starting Maroney, Benson, R. Brown, Colston, and Gates.

The only thing I could possibly waffle on is starting Heap over Maroney - but with WR / TE's you aren't guaranteed looks. I think Maroney could get at least 15 touches, so that's probably my best bet.

And since I'm in a 16 team league, there are no easy choices - or lineups with a lot of studs. :)

For sure Benson, as they are playing KC - should get something great out of him because he's essentially playing for his starting position.

Maroney, well, guess you have to have him in there against the Chargers.

I would look though at Lendell White as an option instead of R. Brown. Washington might be tough on Monday night.

Can you do this?

White might see some touches in the Red Zone against the Colts, who might be looking past the Titans. Just a hunch I have. Brown is the safer call, but White might get you a score.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

For a 16 team league, your backfield is nice.

I can start the following

QB
RB
RB/WR
WR
WR/TE
WR/TE

So I'd have to bench Maroney to play White - but it might make sense to play Heap over Brown. A lot of people are pegging Heap for a TD and a number of catches (he missed out on a TD last week - one for a penalty and one Kyle Boller overthrow).

Brown had a couple of games like his stinker last week last year. Brown will also be matched up against Carlos Rogers - and I think he probably can get a step on him.
The only concerning thing with Brown - there are a number of targets for McNabb.

Stal Herz said...

No, you don't want to do that then.

I thought you could start two RBs and one RB/WR

McNabb did not look all that great against Green Bay last weekend and the play calling was so strange for an Andy Reid Team. Perhaps he knows something about his QB that we don't.

Still, I wouldn't bench Maroney for Lendell - though I like the Titans to beat the Colts this week and catch them loving themselves.

Fisher knows what he's doing.

Good luck with Sir Lawrence.

Here's the question, Stal. For my RBs this week, I will play Shaun Alexander, but need to pick one of these three: Jamal Lewis, Lamont Jordan, or DeShaun Foster. I am leaning towards DeShaun, but what do you think?

Jason said...

Stal,
I beat my opponent by about forty points. Jordan, Alexander, and Gates propelled me to a win.

Stal Herz said...

Foster is the safe pick, espcially at home vs. Texas.

Still, they did bottle up LJ pretty well.

Lewis and Cleveland will be playing from behind all day long, so he is a sit.

As for Jordan, on the road in Denver is a tough match up, and his big gains last week came against Detroit in OAKLAND.

I think Jordan would be the higher Risk / Higher reward pick since he will get all the carries, while Foster will still split time with Williams.

For a yardage league, go with Williams.

For some TDs, you might want to give LaMont a go.

Stal Herz said...

I mean Foster, not Williams of course.
