Weekend Drafts

Draft Weekend Questions.

OK. Put down the mag. Stop mock drafting. Stop trying to figure everything out. You need to ask yourself, how do you feel about certain players. This is your fantasy, remember, so the people you take into battle with you should be the soldiers you want carrying the pride of your team throughout the year. Relax. Visualize.

Do you really think Ronnie Brown is a top tier RB? Did Rex Grossman really figure it all out? Will Mo Jones Drew lose touches to Greg Jones? Will Eli be more than Eli can be?

Everyone who writes fantasy columns, EVERYONE, is just like you. They spend sleepless nights debating which WR to start and wonder when to pull a trigger on a trade.

Some of us, this is me I'm talking about, call newspaper weathermen for reports on field conditions to get the inside scoop to bring to my readers.

What you need to do now is relax and go with your instinct.

However, if those instincts aren't quite settled in, and you need a little help, feel free to ask a question on what you're thinking and I'll try to work it out for you. I'm online doing fantasy prep pretty much all the time seeing as how I'm trying not to work for other Publications and start my own community here with passionate, insane people such as yourselves who have committed themselves to a team that only exists for you and about 9 – 11 other people.

Bring the questions, I'm ready. Also, as soon as the injury reports clear, start 'em and sit 'ems will be available well before Thursday's game. All ansers will be posted on this blog.

Fantasy becomes real when you believe in the unreal.

UPDATE - For all you Steven Jackson Lovers:

Rams offensice Lineman Todd Steussie broke his foot last night. Last year he had 15 starts.

Stal,

How about a WR reciever breakdown. I am a Cincy fan and Chad Johnson gets all the hype but T.J. Houshmanzadah has been having his so called breakout year every season.

Where would you rank T.J.

TJ is like a poor man's Reggie Wayne. I love the Guy. He will bring you yards, and, more importantly, because of Chad, will always draw the other team's 2nd DB. This makes for big games when other's game plan for Chad.

The best part about drafting TJ is that, in most rounds, you can probably get him after you draft him after you pick up RBs with your 1 and 2 picks. With two stud runners and, if your league sleeps, a quality QB or even Antonio Gates as a TE, TJ can carry your receiving squad.

The emergence of Chris Henry is a little bit of a concern, but Housh and Carson have a great chemistry together.

I would have TJ as a #1 WR.

These are my Wide Receiver Ranking as of this weekend. The places have to do with injuries that have taken place.

1. Reggie Wayne
2. Anquon Boldwin
3. Marvin Harrison
4. Terrell Owens
5. Steve Smith
6. Chad Johnson
7. Tory Holt
8. T.J. Houshmanzadah
9. Larry Fitzgerald
10.Reggie Brown
11. Roy Williams
12. Marquis Colston
13. Javon Walker
14. Lee Evens
15. Andre Johnson
16. Santana Moss
17. Randy Moss
18. Hines Ward
19. Vincent Jackson
20. Don Driver

Also Brian, if you draft HOUSH with a WR like, say, Reggie Brown, you'll have two undervalued WRs who both will put up over 1000 yars REC and 6-7 TDs.

Other than Wayne, Harrison, Holt (when he's healthy - which he is not), and Ownens, the other "Star Receivers" are not THAT consistant where they will always put up big points.

The Reason: Look at Chad. He puts up monster games but then coaches plan and tell their backs "Don't let this guy beat you" With Housh, he's always there.

Last year he started the year a little banged up, but still came on to produce the kind of consistant points you need at that position.

Don't go chassing people like Roy Williams with early picks if there are RBs you like. TJ will be there for you, like a Ford Pick Up.

Be well in the Jungle.

Stal,

I need help with a second receiver to pick later in the draft (although your latest blog will help)--also, I get nervous if I get a "middle of the road" draft number and can't pick up any of the top 5 stud RBs. Last year I had LT, so it was a no-brainer. Who do you see as a powerful defense after Chicago and Baltimore? We draft tomorrow--or technically today...later. :) THANKS!

Well Receivers, I think I've answered that one. Reggie Brown is a great middle of the draft receiver as is TJ. Andre Johnson may surprise a little bit this year as well.

As for Running backs after #5:

If Shaun Alexander Falls to you, grab him. There's also a chance that Rudi Johnson will be there as well. He's not that sexy, but he's solid. Remember, With Vanilla Ice Cream, there's always a chance to add some goodies to spice it up. I really like Reggie Bush as well, so if you can team Bush with Johnson that would be sweet. At Number 5, you have a chance to do that.

Mo Jones Drew and Johnson are nice together as well. You shoul be able to land a stud QB to those two as well if you are drafting at 5.

Drafting at 5 means that you have to take chances eqarly, but you can scoop up 2 good rbs - and even a decent QB. with the firts 3 picks. If Mo Jones and Bush are both gone when you are picking your second back, don't be afraid to take Cedric Benson.

He's the best of the lot after:

1. LT
2. Jackson (Although he might be #1)
3. LJ
4. Shaun
5. Adai
7. Johnson (Rudi)
8. Bush
9. Gore
10. Jones Drew
11. Benson
12. Parker
13. Westbrook

Palmer would be a nice three addition at QB if you land those towo RBs. At #5, you MUST draft RBS first. You're team will be set then.

Also, if you are drafting #5, later on, say round 6 or 7, take a flyer on Ledell Betts. He's going to get some work this year. Portis will not last.

As for Defenses, Chicago and Baltimore are always the best - but I really like San Diego this year. Not only do they have the people to smash, but they play the Raiders and Chiefs 2wice.

You should be able to wait on them in most drafts and fill out your roster until then.

New England is a trendy pick as well, so if you can get them in the 8th round, go for it.

Jacksonville is pretty nasty as well, but on a lower level than the chargers.

My Sleeper, six feet deep under sleeper Defense is Minnisotta. They play fast and play some bad teams, but only get them at the very end if everything else is eaten up. Don't let that happen though. After Chicago and Balt go, grab Diego.

However, don't be afraid to pull the trigger on Chicago to early. The score many points.

Hope this helps.

Happy drafting.

Stal,

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. Good stuff. I am not a fantasy expert. I am trying to get a last minute Yahoo league off the ground this week.

this will help.
